Business Opportunities
The East of England is a world leader in low carbon technology. The government plans for 10% of UK energy to come from renewable sources by 2010, and 15% by 2015. The region is well ahead of those targets and committed to generating 14% of its power from renewables by 2010.
Engineering company Peter Brotherhood are specialists in the design and manufacture of renewable energy equipment. Managing director Stephen Fitzpatrick says: “The marine renewable energy industry represents a huge opportunity for the UK."
And it's happening now. The latest two offshore wind farms in the Thames Estuary to get the go-ahead include plans for the world's largest. The £1.5billion London Array will have 341 turbines, covering 90 square miles, some 12 miles off the Kent and Essex coasts. The £450million Thanet project will have 100 turbines off the north Kent coast.
Across the region and already in place is a highly developed network of businesses and agencies with long experience in offshore energy and offshore renewables.
OrbisEnergy, perfectly located at the easternmost point of England, puts companies and investors at the heart of this booming sector with the nearby airports of Norwich and Stansted, the ports of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, and fast road and rail links, providing first-class industry support.

- The UK is leading the world in wave and tidal developments.
- In the coming decade £8-£10billion will be invested in renewable tidal, wave and wind energy developments along the East of England coastline.
- OrbisEnergy at Ness Point in Lowestoft will be at the very centre of that huge explosion in local - as well as national - investment.
- Nationally the amount of power generated through renewables annually will triple by 2015, from the current two gigawatts - enough to power 1.1million homes - to six gigawatts.
- In the East of England alone some 470,000 new homes will be built over the next 15 years and at least 10% of their energy will come from renewables.
